20 July Peace and Freedom Day is Celebrated with Ceremonies and Events

July 20th is known as Peace and Freedom Day in Cyprus. This day commemorates the invasion of Cyprus by Turkish forces on July 20, 1974. The invasion led to the division of the island into two parts: the Republic of Cyprus in the south and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the north.

This ceremony included the speech of the President of the Republic of Northern Cyprus, Mr. Ersin Tatar , and the speech of the President of Turkey, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdogan .

It also included a march of students from all North Cyprus universities, including European Leadership University.

Peace and Freedom Day is marked with ceremonies, events, and remembrance services to honor those who lost their lives during the invasion and to advocate for peace and reunification of the island. It is a significant day for the people of Cyprus and serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to resolve the long-standing conflict and work towards a peaceful and unified future.
